Facebook is growing up, and fast. It has transformed itself into a behemoth that can haphazardly dish out account cancelations and suspensions without recourse or redress for silly and sometimes valid reasons. We made them like that. first let us think a bit about Facebook and what it actually is:
So, if you say anything on Facebook be sure that it will be recorded and someone will take note of your activity and possibly flag your account and follow you.
Facebook has this seemingly haphazard way to disable, delete and remove accounts without redress. This is done, it seems, to protect itself, its investors and Wall Street.
What this means is that Facebook has become, and has always been, a world city center or town crier, if you want to keep you private life private - DON'T post it on Facebook simply don't.
They own the servers and have a group of people in God knows where that monitor everything and dish out punishment at will. Privacy rules vary from one place to another and respect for human rights, for example, is not universal.
Now comes the most critical issue with this set of rules that Facebook enacts which makes it a platform to avoid all together - Internet Single sign-on. Many websites now have made it "easier" to use your Facebook account for sign on and contacts and .....
So what do you do if the Facebook overlord decides to randomly dish out punishment on you for some silly reason, or even a valid one?
You lose all this access to all the other applications and believe me some of them cost money. this Facebook set of rules does not give the user a chance to even look to see where did they use it for single sign on to remove this association to avoid financial penalty. But we agreed to their terms by signing on to Facebook.
Facebook is an unreliable platform for common use and especially for single sign on to internet applications and to do business, the days of Facebook are, in my own opinion over.
Facebook is NOT a means for private communications and it never sold itself as such. so don't air you dirty laundry in public for all to see keep private matters private.
Facebook is an unreliable partner for business due to their policies that destroy years of records instantly without recourse.
Facebook, is a great platform to be used as a town crier, never post anything private on it and never ever ever use it for single sign on since it is unreliable and unforgiving. They claim that this is to protect the "community" but there must be a recourse for people to reclaim some of their data.
In the end if it is free remember there is NOTHING FREE, there is a catch, and this is it, you signed off the rights to this data by storing it on Facebook and agreeing to their terms, they own it, they can do anything they want with it, they can cut you off and you have no recourse.
FINALLY - LIFE EXISTED BEFORE THE INTERNET, THE IPHONE, GOOGLE AND ALL THOSE AND IT WILL CONTINUE. Unplug, unplug, unplug, reduce your reliance on the internet and its websites especially those that promise you free stuff, stay away from Facebook and other FREE sites, and remember we are their slaves not their customers we can only stop them by not giving them power over us.
- It is a public forum to connect people publicly.
- It used to be a public forum for free speech, an advocate for social change and people used it to do a lot of good.
- Some other people used and still use it to do bad things to others.
- Being a large Wall Street firm they had to comply to a different set of rules and regulations to satisfy their new entity and, by rights, it is their right to do so.
- Facebook is now, and has always been, monitored by EVERYONE from North Korea to the US government, I mean EVERYONE.
So, if you say anything on Facebook be sure that it will be recorded and someone will take note of your activity and possibly flag your account and follow you.
